The benzodiazepine story shows more clearly and with more evidence than anything else, the power of those who run a democracy to ignore the suffering of whole swathes of citizens – a condition which they allowed to happen and egregiously ignored. To protect themselves and the system, they permitted the perpetual destruction of individuals who otherwise might have lived the lives of normal human beings. Colin Downes-Grainger
